Bellaghy company wins major Primark contracts
Apr 08

Major store investment by the Primark retailing group have resulted in a number of high profile contracts for a leading Irish electrical contracting company.

Bellaghy-based Premier Electrics will be responsible for the complete electrical re-fit- of stores in Bolton, Hounslow in Middlesex, and High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. In addition to these contracts Premier also won a substantial project for Primark’s Irish brand, Pennys, which has undertaken a major expansion at its Galway store.

The main contractor for the Galway project store was the Patton Group in Ballymena and both Northern Ireland companies worked alongside each other in the four-phase scheme which has resulted in the new-look store being re-launched this month.

The Bolton contract starts in October, with Premier tasked with installing new lighting, power, security, telephone, fire alarm and PA systems throughout the refurbished store which is also being boosted by a new 13,000 sq ft ground floor extension and refurbishments of the existing building.

Premier also started work this month on an electrical re-fit of a Primark store in High Wycombe which is due to re-open in early October. The store was a former Marks & Spencer outlet before being taken over by Primark which has been ranked by TNS as GB’s second largest clothing retailer by volume; by Verdict Research as the leading retailer in value clothing and by GMTV and ITV viewers as ‘Best Value High Street Fashion’ chain.

The new contract maintains Premier’s strong links in the area, having just completed a major electrical contract as part of the refurbishment of High Wycombe Mall.

Meanwhile, the Northern Ireland electrical company is currently on site in another contract for similar work at a Primark store in Hounslow, outside London.  Wates Retail is the main contractor for the phased refurbishment scheme which is due for completion in February, 2009.

Premier Electrics Company Manager, Tony Shivers said the latest contract wins were testament to the strong working partnership that has developed between Premier and Primark for whom the Bellaghy company has completed electrical contracts in around 70 stores throughout the UK and Ireland including flagship locations in London, Liverpool and Cardiff.

These latest contracts follow on from Premier’s work at Primark’s flagship Oxford Street store in central London which opened last year where the local company installed a wide range of electrical systems, including a new concept in lighting – a versatile LED system capable of emitting any colour from the spectrum at the touch of a button.

This was the first of the Primark outlets to use the ‘call forwarding’ queue management system to ease congestion at till banks and Premier installed it, as well as the first tagging system for changing areas.

Premier Electrics was established in 1993 and has built up a reputation for efficiency and excellence thanks to significant and ongoing projects with key retailers such as M&S, Debenhams and Primark.

The forward-thinking management team has recently employed the services of a leading design consultancy and PR company and is shortly unveil a fresh new brand image to reflect its growing position within the industry.
